ITV Good Morning Britain: Sadiq Khan enrages viewers after ‘running from’ Piers Morgan

GOOD MORNING BRITAIN aired an interview with Sadiq Khan earlier today and tacked the ongoing issue of London crime. However, viewers were seemingly unhappy with the debate as they demanded to know why the Mayor chose to go on the ITV show on a day without Piers Morgan.

Earlier this week, Piers Morgan lashed out at the Mayor of London for not addressing questions about the increase of knife crime in the capital immediately on Good Morning Britain.

However, Sadiq Khan was on BBC Radio 4 at the time, meaning he physically couldn’t have done both appearances.

He was interviewed earlier today though, as Khan introduced his new initiative to ban junk food advertisements.

Khan faced questions from Ranvir Singh and Kate Garraway on the show.

However, viewers were not happy about how he chose to appear on Good Morning Britain on the same day Morgan was not on.

Morgan himself raged: “Great to see @SadiqKhan on @GMB today talking about the terrible threat of junk food on public transport. Especially as he refuses to come on @GMB when I am there to talk about the explosion in knife crime happening on his watch. Grow a pair, Mr Mayor.”

Another added: “How funny that @SadiqKhan is on @GMB when @piersmorgan isn’t there!! Cannot stop laughing I think someone is a bit scared of you Piers.”

A third tweeted: “@piersmorgan strange that Sadiq Khan goes on GMB to talk about adverts on buses but not about the violence in London, and while you’re not on as well? Some would suggest he’s running away from you.”

A fourth wrote: “I would’ve like to see Sadiq Khan interviewed by Piers Morgan.”

Khan, however, discussed how he is working with the government to combat the increase of violent crime in London.

He explained how there has been an increase of crime in many cities, so London isn’t alone.

Khan continued to defend his stance on the situation, insisting he does “have a grip” on it.

He said: “I think we have [got this under control] and the government are working closely with us.

“We’ve got to make sure young people know carrying knives will make them less safe than more safe.

“We’ve got to make sure retailers aren’t selling knives to young people.”

Khan went on to explain how he believes the recent cuts to police forces over the past 10 years have had a rolling damage to the country’s protection.

He also wanted to stress to viewers how they would be safe under the “stop and search” implementation.

“When a police officer stops you, this is being recorded on a body-worn video so you know you’re being safeguarded.

“We know people are carrying knives and guns on them so we need this to keep people safe,” Khan insisted.
